Demo Monkey ResponsibilitiesBeing a Demo Monkey is a lot of fun, but there are some responsibilities that come with the job. The Demo Monkey program is a volunteer program. That means that while we can't make you do anything, your acceptance into the program and continuance thereafter is at our discretion. First and foremost, your job as a Demo Monkey is to go to your local game stores and conventions and demonstrate our games to the store owners and general public. We expect this will be done with the knowledge that you are most likely the only representative of our company most people will ever meet. Whatever impression you make on them is the impression they will have of our company as a whole. Along with this goes the general golden rules that just about everyone learned in kindergarten. Clean up after yourself. Keep your games tidy. If your demo games start to get thrashed, tell us and we'll send you a new copy. Treat everyone you meet with respect and civility. I know all of this sounds corny, but it's one the most important things to remember. If a store owner likes the way a Monkey conducts a demo, I often get emails telling me so. I really like getting those emails. I don't like getting emails or phone calls telling me that one of my Demo Monkeys left their area a total mess or that they were disrespectful to either the store staff or to their customers. We provide each Demo Monkey with a Cheapass Games Demo Monkey t-shirt. Whenever possible I encourage the Monkeys to wear them whenever they go out to a demonstration. Now if it comes down to the choice between your dirty Cheapass shirt or a clean shirt, I'd rather you choose the clean shirt, but that should go without saying. Demo Monkeys are asked to submit a demo report for each and every demo they do. This should just be a quick email sent to the monkey mailing list that tells where and what they demoed, how it was received, and any good or bad highlights of the demo. Very soon we will have an online report form that you can just fill out. Keep your local game stores informed. I do try my best to make sure that the Monkey team is kept well informed so that you in turn can keep your local game stores up to date on what is going on in the Cheapass world. I expect that you know at least a handful of our games well enough to demo before becoming a Demo Monkey as well as having previous demo experience. This cannot include any out-of-print games as you shouldn't be demoing out-of-print games for fairly obvious reasons. Please keep in mind when you are requesting to be a demo monkey that we can only have one or two Monkeys in a certain city or region (depending on the size). If we turn you down because of that, it's nothing personal. I'll keep you on file and let you know if one of the Monkeys in your area spontaneously combusts. If you want to become a Demo Monkey, please fill out the application which will be sent to Liz for consideration. She'll get back to you as soon as possible. |
