Secret Tijuana Deathmatch Locationsby Christpher Powell I just got my copy of Secret Tijuana Deathmatch a few days ago, and I've played it with friends several times. We cannot get enough of the fast-paced lucha libre action. The game is absolutely incredible by itself, but we've already created a few variants that can really spice up the game. Most of these can be mixed and matched. VARIANT: "Location, location, location." The real estate seller's mantra. Unfortunately, a few of the combatants were in the real estate business and even the Three Ls couldn't save them from bankruptcy. This variant requires three or more each of the five mana cards from Magic: the Gathering. If you exhaust the pile, you can just shuffle it back together. Five of each mana is a good number, though; helps keep things nicely mixed up. Play the game normally. After two fighters agree to battle and all bets have been made, take a land off the top of the deck of Magic cards. This land is a special venue for your match. Plains: The Ring. Canvas and turnbuckles. A fair fight. Play the match normally. The rules do not change. Swamps: The Dive Bar. In these tight quarters, packed with tables, chairs, pool tables, and low-hanging light fixtures, good tricks are always an advantage. Compare the two fighters' current Trix values each time a player takes his or her turn. Whoever has the higher of the two values cannot have that value changed by his or her opponent. Forests: The Overgrown Lot. When all of the other venues are taken up, the fight moves out to a secluded spot in the middle of nowhere. The brush is thick, and it's going to be very hard to hit an opponent with vines and heavy plants in the way. Compare the two fighters' current Blok values each time a player takes his or her turn. Whoever has the higher of the two values cannot have that value changed by his or her opponent. Islands: The Steel Cage. There is no escape from a heavy hitter here in the cage. Compare the two fighters' current Hit values each time a player takes his or her turn. Whoever has the higher of the two values cannot have that value changed by his or her opponent. Mountains: The Warehouse. If you can't find a crate to turn over onto your opponent or a wrench to hide behind your back here, in the warehouse, you just aren't trying hard enough. The players entering the fight pull two extra tiles each, but may only play these tiles during that match. At the end of the fight, any unused bonus tiles must be discarded. We really like the location variant. |
