Rename that Spy!
January 1, 2004
Cheapass Games announces a contest to rename its classic
game, Before I Kill You, Mister Bond, which was removed from
print due to a name conflict with an existing spy franchise.
From now until March 31 2004, fans can send their name suggestions.
The winner of the contest will receive a year's subscription
to Cheapass Games, and two runners-up will receive copies
of the new game.
In 1996 Cheapass Games released one of its most popular games,
Before I Kill You Mister Bond, treading perilously close to
copyright infringement on a large and popular entertainment
brand. Sure enough, the multimedia conglomerate responsible
for defending this brand took only four years to tell Cheapass
Games to cut it out. Fearing the costs associated with winning
a lawsuit, Cheapass removed the game from production in August
of 2000.
Now Cheapass Games has decided to reissue the game under
a new name, and is calling on its fans to help. From now until
March 31 2004, you can enter your name suggestions. The winner
of the contest will receive a year's subscription to Cheapass
Games, and two runners-up will receive a copy of the new game,
to remind them of how clever they might have been.
Submissions to this contest become the property of Cheapass
Games. While Cheapass guarantees a winner, we do not guarantee
that your game title will be used. Unacceptable titles include
"Before I Kill You, Mister Spy," "Before I
Sue You, Mister Ernest," and "What Part of 'Doctor
No' Don't You Understand?"
Cheapass Games is a small game company in Seattle. Their
non-infringing titles include Kill Doctor Lucky, Give Me the
Brain, and Unexploded Cow. Look for them on the Web at www.cheapass.com.
